Nigerians have taken to the social media to demand justice for Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, a 100 level student of the University of Benin who died after being raped in the church. According to media sources, Vera, a fresher at the department of Microbiology, faculty of Life Sciences, at UNIBEN was raped on Friday 29th May near Ikpoba Hill in Benin City, at her church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Today’s Echo gathers that the 22-year-old victim had gone to the church to read as usual, in preparation for the lifting of the coronavirus-imposed shutdown of schools. The perpetrators were said to have attacked her at the RCCG Ohovbe road branch, raped and smashed her head with a fire extinguisher, leaving her for dead. BREAKING: FG extends ‘gradual ease of lockdown’ by two weeks

The eased lockdown directive issued by President Muhammadu Buhari has been extended till June 1. Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, made the announcement during the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing on Monday. According to him, the president took the decision based on the recommendations of the PTF, and the guidelines issued for relaxing the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and the federal capital territory (FCT) will be maintained for the next two weeks, after which there will be another review. Rivers State and other parts of Eastern and Southern Nigeria are not dumping refuse for the North.
