Nigeria receives 2nd batch of medical supplies from China

Nigeria received on Thursday the second batch of medical supplies from China to help the West African country combat the COVID-19 outbreak.
The donation was handed over at the Cargo Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the capital of Abuja.

The items donated by China will go a long way to assist Niger in containing the COVID-19 pandemic, said Li Yuan, economic and commercial counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, while handing over the supplies to local officials.
The medical supplies include 1,500 N95 masks, 10,000 surgical masks, 1,750 disposable gown, 350 infrared thermometer, 1,750 pairs of medical goggles, 9,750 pairs of gloves and 9,750 pairs of shoe covers.

The first batch of medical supplies from China arrived in Lagos, the Nigerian commercial hub, three days earlier.
Nigeria has received donations from the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and the Jack Ma Foundation. Many Chinese enterprises in Nigeria have made donations to local communities, either in the form of medical equipment or food, or in funding to help the country combat the pandemic.

COVID-19: Nigeria Imports Madagascar’s Herbal Drug as Numbers Rise

The federal government is set to receive the first shipment of Madagascar’s COVID Organics (COV), a herbal drug for the prevention and cure of Coronavirus after the latter offered it Nigeria and other African countries. According to reports, Nigeria’s consignment has been sent to Equatorial Guinea from where it will be airlifted to Abuja. For ease of transportation, African countries were divided into zones leading to the freighting of Nigeria’s consignments to Equatorial Guinea. IMF Approves $3.4bn For Nigeria’s COVID-19 Fight

hThe board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved the sum of $3.4 billion to support Nigeria’s COVID-19 fight. The emergency financial assistance to Nigeria is the highest so far to any member country. The assistance, facilitated via the Rapid Financing Instrument (RFI), will help limit the decline in Nigeria’s international reserves, the IMF said. It will also help to provide financing for the country’s budget, which has been severely affected by falling oil prices triggered by the pandemic and price wars. The IMF praised the Nigerian government’s “immediate” response to the crisis, describing it as “welcome.” However, it noted that short-term focus should be on higher health spending and palliative for households and businesses.
